What Do We Need a Dog For??

Drew has been begging me for a dog since we bought our house at the end of February 2009.  He's always grown up having a dog, and well, I haven't.  I have never had a dog for a pet.  It's not that I don't like dogs.  For the most part, I don't have a problem with them.  Well, except for Max, one of Drew's parents dogs.  He decided that he would french kiss me one morning while I was sleeping.  We haven't been friends since.  But, the other Drew's dogs.  I love his dogs!  They are so well behaved and he has trained them so well.  I know that a lot of that has to do with the owner, and he's obviously worked very hard with them.

When I was doing the IUI cycle in November/December, I made the decision that if I got pregnant, I would get Drew a dog for Christmas.  I would have 9 months to train the dog before we had the baby and that seemed pretty good to me.  But, I didn't wind up pregnant, so no dog.  I haven't closed off the idea all together, but we just aren't getting a dog right now.

I always keep telling Drew that we don't need a dog.  We have two cats and they are plenty enough animals for us.  Drew doesn't agree.  But then, when Leo does his "trick", I know that I'm totally right.  We don't need a dog to play fetch with...

See?  What the heck do we need a dog for?

Best.Husband.Ever!!!

As I'm sure you lovely readers know, our anniversary is coming up. I had to work at the bank until 6 tonight. I came home, walked in the living room, and greeted my husband. I then started to head back to the bedroom to do what I do every night when I get home from the bank. Put my pajamas on! I started calling for Simon because I saw him when I walked in, but then he ran away. I didn't see him in the hallway and figured he was in the bedroom. As I approached the bedroom, I heard a squeaking and wondered what Simon was doing. I flipped the light on in the bedroom and was greeted by the cutest little kitten in a cage! Drew got me a kitten for my anniversary present!!!!!

Drew got him from one of his co-workers. He is 8 weeks old today.
And he is crazy!! Watch the video that we took of him. He does more playing in the kitty litter than anything else.

I am totally in love with him. We haven't decided on a name yet. We're leaning towards George because it kinda sounds like orange. We're fans of naming our pets "normal" names. That way I don't feel like a loser shouting Fluffy or Nugget (Mom!) to our pet. Any suggestions?

'Cause You've Gotta Have Friends

Our new "tenants" have been living here for about 2 1/2 weeks now. They are Mike, his wife, Becca, and their two sons, Andy (almost 4) and Johnny (5 months). Along with them also came their two pets, a beagle named Toby and a cat named Mercury. I was probably the most worried about the fact that two new animals were coming into our house. Simon has been an only pet since we got him and he has not had any good experiences with other animals.

Simon's new favorite activity is hanging out in the bathrooom sink.
He absolutely L-O-V-E-S when I turn the faucet on so that it's a slow steady steam. He sits there for a while and drinks it and plays with it. He is one happy little kitty!!
When everybody moved in, we just kind of let the animals do their own thing. We each picked up our cats and let them sniff at each other until they squirmed to get out of our arms. It was a few days before Simon began venturing downstairs to see what exactly Mercury was and what he was doing here. It only took a day or two of cautious sniffing and a couple bats at each other for Simon and Mercury to become best friends.
These two are inseperable now! Mercury is upstairs more than he is downstairs. (I think that part of that reason may be because I actually give him some affection.) Most of the time, Simon and Mercury are side by side. Or at least not far from each other.
I walked in on the two of them the other day and Simon was licking Mercury. At that point, I walked out to where everybody else was and said, "Great, now we're going to have to get another cat when you leave!" I am really happy though that Simon and Mercury have made friends. That was a true statement though. I have a strong feeling that when they move out and take Mercury with them that Simon will be lonely. It will then be only a matter of time before we adopt another family member.

Drew is lobbying for a dog. He's going to have to keep wishing for that one for a long time!!!

Babe, Can We Have One Too??

Since we live in an apartment, we have upstairs neighbors. Well, side neighbors too, but we spend a good amount of time with our upstairs neighbors. They are Josh and Angie and they are lots of fun. Josh works at the animal shelter here. He told us over the weekend that he might be bringing a kitten home. I found out that he did indeed bring a kitten home and this is the cute little thing that I walked into. Josh said she's about 2 or 3 weeks old.

Drew's hand is only slightly smaller than she is. How adorable!!!

I am so-o in love with her. I couldn't believe how playful she was. She's got super sharp claws though. They have another older cat and she was very unhappy about the new kitten. She would hiss and puff herself up and the kitten would pay no attention to her. I thought it was quite cute.
