You may remember the Proverbs 31 Bible study that I did back in the beginning of summer. When that one finished, I began looking for another one to do. Around that time, there was a lot of buzz around blogs and twitter about Unglued by Lysa TerKeurst. After reading the summary of the book, I knew that I had found my next Bible study, this time with Melissa Taylor.
Unglued talks about "making wise choices in the midst of raw emotions". I think that Lysa wrote this book exactly for me! I'm a redhead, in every sense of the word. I have a quick, fiery temper and it does not take much to set me off. And you know what? I hate being that way! I want to be in control of my emotions. I don't want to become unglued at the smallest little thing. I am not a freak-out woman! Or at least, I certainly don't want to be and I am going to focus on not being one.
So far, I've read the first two chapters. Chapter 1 - An Invitation to Imperfect Progress talks about just that, imperfect progress. Lysa says, "Imperfect changes are slow steps of progress wrapped in grace . . . imperfect progress." It's important to focus on making progress and understanding that a change may not come overnight. I will have days where I succeed and days where I fall flat on my face. The importance is to get back up and begin again, more forward.
Lysa also discusses how it's important to not focus on the past, but to "bow to the One who holds out hope for a better future". If I have a bad moment, or a bad day, I need to learn to leave that in the past and ask God for guidance for tomorrow.
Chapter 2 - I Am Not a Freak-Out Woman is all about perspective. One of the biggest messages is that I can face things that are out of my control and not act out of control. It's also about learning to trust Him and that he might be giving us one challenge to prepare us for another.
During my infertility struggles, I had an epiphany one day. I had spent so many days crying and asking God why I couldn't be blessed with a child. Why did I have to struggle so much when I knew that I would be a good mom and knew that we deserved a child? I begged and pleaded, screamed and cried. Then, it hit me. If infertility was the cross that I was meant to carry, then that's really not the worst thing to happen to me. There are people who are fighting to live every single day; people who wake up and don't know if they will have see another day. I was alive. I have endometriosis, but it's not killing me. As bad as things could be for me, infertility wasn't the worst.
I have met so many fantastic women during my infertility struggle. I think that God gave me the infertility struggle so that I could meet these women and share the journey. I just couldn't see it in the beginning.
I am really excited to read more of Unglued. I really think that this book and study is going to be good for me and is going to help me learn how to not be a freak-out woman.

GMG Week 13 Recap
Scripture passages for the week:
Proverbs 31 : 31 - Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
Proverbs 14 : 23 - All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.
Proverbs 27 : 18 - The one who guards a fig tree will eat its fruit, and whoever protects their master will be honored.
Acts 13 : 22 - After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: 'I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.'
Proverbs 27 : 2 - Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips.
This is the last week of Scripture passages to read and I really feel like I've learned a lot. I have, by no means, become the Proverbs 31 woman, and I honestly don't know if I ever will. But, this study has given me something to strive for. This woman is impeccable. She rises early, goes to bed late, sees over the affairs of her household, does not eat the bread of idleness, and is called blessed by her children and praised by her husband. She is definitely worth far more than rubies.

GMG Week 12 Recap

Proverbs 31 : 30 - Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
1 Peter 3 : 3-4 - Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of grab worth in God's sight.
2 Corinthians 4 : 16 - Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
1 Timothy 2 : 9-10 - I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.

GMG Week 11 Recap
Scripture passages for the week:
Proverbs 31 : 28 - Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.
Proverbs 22 : 6 - Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.
Titus 2 : 4 - Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children.
Proverbs 31 : 29 - "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all"
This week sort of made me a little sad. I know that my husband appreciates all that I do, but he rarely praises me for it. And, if we're being honest, I know that I don't praise him enough for what he does. He knows that I am grateful to him for going to work, but I know that I don't vocalize it enough. I'm going to work harder on vocalizing my thanks and praising him for what he does. All too often people get lost in criticizing, especially when it comes to parenting. I'm home with Annelise all day, so I've learned what she likes and dislikes. I just assume that Drew watches me enough to see it; I forget that I have to teach him sometimes. Now, whether he listens or not is a completely different story. I am very conscious about praising him when he does something well with Annelise, and I know that that helps his self-esteem. He doesn't spend a lot of time with her and she is still a little leery of him at times. I'm very quick to praise him when he is able to calm her down. I just need to remember to praise him for other things too!

GMG Week 10 Recap

Proverbs 9 : 1-2 - Wisdom has built her house; she has set up its seven pillars. She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table.
Proverbs 6 : 6-11 - Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest -- and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.

Frankly, I'm struggling with being a Proverbs 31 woman. I'm trying, I really am. But I feel like I'm failing in every aspect of it. I know that it's not realistic to expect to become her overnight, and I wasn't looking to accomplish that. It was more something to strive towards becoming. Honestly, I feel further away from being a Proverbs 31 woman than when I started. I will continue to strive to be a Proverbs 31 woman.

GMG Week 9 Recap

Ephesians 4 : 29 - Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
1 Timothy 3 : 11 - In the same way, the women are to be worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything.

Boy oh boy, did I need these passages this week. I have been an awful person, and I have been completely trash talking someone to a bunch of different people. I need to stop. Seriously, I need to stop. It is so unladylike for me to gossip and bash this person the way that I have. Just because I may think or feel a certain way, does not mean that I need to vocalize that to another person.

GMG Week 4 Recap

This week I worked on rising earlier in the morning. It was easy for me since I had such a busy week spending time with family. I will have to keep it up and work on continuing to rise early.

GMG Week 3 Recap
Scripture passages for the week:
Proverbs 31 : 12 - She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.
1 Kings 11 : 4 - As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been.
Proverbs 31 : 13 - She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands.
Colossians 3 : 23 - Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.
Proverbs 31 : 14 - She is like the merchant ships bringing her food from afar.
Proverbs 9 : 1-2 - Wisdom has built her house; she has set up its seven pillars. She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; She has also set her table.
Genesis 24 : 15-20 - Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder. She was the daughter of Bethuel son of Milkah, who was the wife of Abraham's brother Nahor. The woman was very beautiful, a virgin; no man had ever slept with her. She went down to the spring, filled her jar and came up again. The important lesson that stuck out to me this week is to work with eager hands. I have a tendency to put off the less enjoyable chores and grumble my way through them. I need to work for the Lord eagerly and praise that fact that I am able to do such chores.

I felt like the Lord was really trying to teach me to trust in Him this week. I've had a challenging week at home, and I need to learn how to turn towards God when I get frustrated. As a Proverbs 31 woman, my husband should be able to trust me to maintain our household when he can't, and he should be able to trust me to maintain it with a calm and level-head. Drew should be able to trust me to make the best decisions for our family. I also need to exhibit noble qualities as a Proverbs 31 woman.

Proverbs 31 Woman
My good friend, Lindsay over at Designer Wife, asked a couple of weeks ago if I wanted to participate in a Bible study that Good Morning Girls was starting. This course was going to be all about Proverbs 31. I thought it sounded extremely interesting, and I've been wanting to do a Bible study. So, I, and some other women that I know, formed a group and we've started learning all about the Proverbs 31 woman.
Last week, I read about King Lemuel's mother telling King Lemuel how to be a good ruler. There is also an ebook that goes along with the Bible study. The ebook talked about whether or not the Proverbs 31 woman is for real.
Proverbs 31 is a chapter that gives women a lot to strive for and live up to. Some women may be offended or discouraged by the verses that are written.
I think that this study is going to be good for me in this season of my life. I've settled into my role as a wife, but there is always room for improvement. Now that I've taken on a new role as a mother, I'm struggling with everything that that encompasses. And, admittedly, I've lost some ground in my role as a wife. It's all par for the course, but I want to get back on track.
I hope that through this study and prayer, God can teach me how to be like the Proverbs 31 woman. I was recently told by a "friend" that I'm always angry and that I'm toxic in their life. That hurt. I'm not sure whether that "friend" was just speaking out of anger or if she honestly and truly believes that. Either way, it was said, and I'm the type of person that would rather hear the truth that have things kept inside. So, I'm obviously need to work on being a happier person around the people that I surround myself with. Now, I'm no longer going to be surrounding myself with that "friend" due to some other circumstances, but she definitely gave me some things to think about it.
I'm going to try to do a reflection and recap post here on the weekends about what I've studied during the week. Feel free to join the study and, if we're Facebook friends, let me know that you are doing it and I can add you to our group.

Lent List Project: Organize Entryway Closet
I completed the first project on my Lent List tonight. Since winter is almost over and we won't be going in the closet nearly as much, I figured that I would start there. Plus, it was the one that was annoying me the most.
Ewww, right! Just piles of crap everywhere.
So, I bought some baskets and did a quick clean up and I am very happy with the results!
Much better, right?

Blessings
When we bought our new car back in July, one of the features was that it came with XM radio. I have been spending a lot of time listening to the The Message, which is one of the Christian music stations. I heard this song a couple of weeks ago and I just love it.
It amazes me how God sends me a message exactly when I need to hear.

Lent List
Lent starts tomorrow. Lent is the 40 days leading up to Easter, starting at Ash Wednesday. This time marks a time of sacrifice in order to honor the time that Jesus spent in the desert.
Usually, people will give something up as a sacrifice. Since I know that giving something up at this point in my life is really going to do nothing more than piss me off, I have decided to do something a little different. I have decided to add something in.
I have decided that I am going to focus on being a better wife for Drew. I don't feel like our home is as clean as it should, considering the fact that I do not work outside of the house. Our home is clean, but not nearly as spotless as should be expected. I am going to focus on that. I am going to work on planning and making good dinners for Drew to eat while he's working. (This may be really tough because I strongly dislike cooking.) I am also going to work on bringing more organization to our home.
Here's my Lent List of things to accomplish in the next 40 days:

A Walk Through the Bible
One of the goals on my 101 in 1001 list is to read the Bible. Today, I've decided to dive into that goal. But you didn't honestly think that I'd be able to just read the Bible cover to cover did you? Neither did I. This is the Bible that I'm reading because, frankly, it's the only Bible I own. Good reason, right? At the beginning, there are different reading plans. The second reading plan is A Walk Through the Bible. "In four weeks, you can visit some of the highlights of the Bible in chronological order." Sounds like a winner to me.
So, I dove right in. Today had me reading Genesis chapters 1 and 2 which was about Creation.
I feel that, with everything that has been going on lately in my life, I need to grow closer to God. I pray; I ask The Lord for blessings and praise Him when we are blessed, but I need to strengthen my relationship with him. I miss going to church. I used to go every Sunday. But that stopped because I was dating a guy who didn't put religion as a priority and I, stupidly, put my faith aside in order to be with him. Oh.... dumb, dumb, dumb!!!
I told Drew that I want us to start finding a church that we can go to. It won't be long before we start to talk about kids and I want our kids to grow up in a church. I want to belong to a church and feel a part of that community. I also told him that after we find that church, that I want to then join a bible study.
Do you want to know what gave me the final push to start this? I started reading this blog. Kelly seems like such a sweet, sweet woman; I would love to be friends with her in real life. God has truly blessed her and her family. Throughout all her struggles, she never lost faith. I feel like God led me to her blog. Especially after my breakdown last week when I felt like he was doing nothing but laughing at me.
